Adobe Creative Cloud 2017 is here

Last updated: 29th November 2016

Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) 2017 applications are complete new builds of the tools and not just “in place” feature updates to the existing versions.  Improvements to CC include new offerings and functionality that enhance collaboration through the use of shared team projects, learning and discoverability to help users deliver their best work faster. There isn’t enough space in this blog to discuss every new feature, so we will concentrate on the highlights of CC and how it enables end users to be more productive and creative:

  • Adobe Stock

Adobe Stock is now integrated across the Creative Cloud suite and is receiving a major update.  Having partnered with Reuters, Adobe Stock now benefits from the availability of the news agency’s library of photos and videos covering news, sports and entertainment events.   Additionally, Adobe Stock’s new visual search lets you search and find relevant images by selecting one and subsequently narrowing down the selection to one that works for your project via the use of Sensei, its artificial intelligence framework.  This will become a popular way for designers or artists to search for and find images that are quite specific or similar to what they already have.  Adobe stock images can be purchased at a discounted rate by educational establishments.

  • Photoshop CC

In-App Search: Quickly search Photoshop tools, panels, menus, Adobe Stock assets, help content and tutorials from within Photoshop using a new search panel that’s right at your fingertips. Hit CMD+F (or Ctrl+F on Windows) to launch it, or click on the new search symbol  in the upper right corner of the application frame and give it a try.

Enhanced Properties panel: The Properties panel now displays information about common layer types as well as the document, so it’s easier to make precise adjustments.

Support for SVG color fonts: Access any SVG font installed on your system from the Photoshop Font menu. Great for responsive design, SVG fonts support multiple colors and gradients and they can be raster or vector. Adobe are including two new free SVG fonts to get you started: EmojiOne and Trajan Color Pro. They are pre-loaded and you will find them in the Type tool’s font drop down menu.

Face-Aware Liquify Enhancement: Face-Aware Liquify in Photoshop automatically detects facial features and helps you adjust them to enhance a portrait or add creative character to a fun shot.  In this version of Photoshop you can now independently adjust the eyes

Improved Select and Mask Workspace

The Polygonal Lasso tool has been added to the task-space toolbar

Match Font now searches for any font installed on your system (previously only searched from a subset of fonts)

Click to commit text: Click anywhere outside a text box to commit it (previously you clicked on the check box in upper right of frame)

  • Illustrator CC

Create pixel perfect artwork: Draw paths and shapes that seamlessly align to the pixel grid. Align existing artwork with a single click or by using simple transformations. Preserve Live Shapes and rounded corners, maintain alignment when scaling and rotating objects, and manually nudge segments and end points into perfect alignment.

Work easier with Glyphs: Use alternate glyphs for any character by simply selecting the character and choosing from an in-context menu. View and insert your most recently used glyphs, and sort glyphs for faster browsing.

Zoom to selection: View and edit faster now that you can zoom into anything you’ve selected — an active point, a segment, a path, or an object.

Modern User Experience: A flat UI and new icons for tools and panels offer a cleaner look and help you focus on your artwork.
