MacPrefect
5 X is a desktop protection software, a first
of its kind for a standalone Macintosh computers
running Mac OS X. It works exactly the same as
MacPrefect 5, it maintains your machines standard
desktop without altering your user interface or
affecting your user experience. It will protect
you and your machine to a level that can be determined
by your system administrator. Protection settings
can be configured, named and saved for user when
and if required.

Features and Controls:
- Security
- Users are not aware that the protection software
is running, until an action that has been disabled
within the configured protection setting is attempted.
Configurable dialogues warn the user why the requested
action may not be performed.
- Protection
- Protection settings can be configured and saved
for use as required. The protection settings file
may then be activated on the individual Macintosh
computer through secured access to the machine.
- Finder
Commands - Allow or deny access to the 'Connect to
Server', 'Go to iDisk', 'Eject', 'Burn Disk', 'Go
to Folder', 'Restart' and 'Shut Down' commands.
- Folder
Sweep - Set and configure files and folders to be
swept at logout in order to maintain and preserve
disk space; Set target disk space; Sweep files by
date.
- Login
- Set which application should run at login. Allow
user to add or remove startup items; Enable or disable
the Shift key at startup.
- Media
Access Control - Set access permissions and options
for each media type, including 'Allow', 'Read Only',
'Authentication Required', and 'Eject at logout'.
- Menu
Control - Prevent access to any individual menu item
within any application, e.g.. Prevent user from changing
option settings in an application.
- Print
Control - Prevent Printing, or control the maximum
amount of copies that can be printed.
- System
Preferences Control - Controls the System Preferences
Panes that can be accessed by the user, e.g.. Disable
access to the Network System Panel or Disable access
to the desktop settings and controls.
- Compatibility
- Provides complete functionality with 'Jaguar' and
'Panther' versions of Mac OS X, from 10.2.4 to 10.3.x,
including the Classic environment.
- Auto
Update - Connects to Hi Resolution's FTP servers to
check for software updates.

The license and media supplied with MacPrefect 5 X will
include both versions of MacPrefect, allowing users
to install version 5 on pre - Mac OS machines and upgrade
to 5 X without charge when upgrading the machines to
