Computers Reaches Daily Post Finals

Rural
location brings national recognition
Education
software specialists Pugh Computers Ltd have reached
the final three of this years Daily Post Achievement
Wales Business Awards, Large Business of the Year
category, for companies with turnover of more
than £10m. The winner will be announced
on November 22 at a black - tie dinner and award
ceremony held in the Pritchard Jones Hall at the
University of Wales Bangor.
Originally
founded in 1981 by local businessman Jeffrey Pugh,
the business was incorporated in 1991, when Mike
Young joined the board as Sales Director. The
company has grown consistently year on year to
become a major local employer with 20 staff and
annual turnover of £15m. Pugh specializes
in software sales and licensing and is one of
the leading suppliers of software to the education
and voluntary sector throughout the UK and Ireland.
The company also offers high level consultancy
in networking and network security.
Pugh
have been a prominent player in the Wales Fast
Growth 50 index of Wales' top companies for the
last three years. The company attributes its strong
market position to teamwork, focused business
planning and the close working relationship it
has built with suppliers such a Microsoft, Macromedia,
and Adobe - partnerships which have helped Pugh
Computers to develop purchasing programs to satisfy
the needs of education establishments and charities
and deliver low cost software.
Previous
winners of the Large Business Awards include market
leading UK house builder Redrow in 2000 and Welsh
agri - business Wynnstay last year. In this years
final Pugh are up against two major international
companies both with a turnover in excess of £30m,
CP Pharmaceuticals and Euro DPC Ltd. This goes
to show that location is not a barrier in today's
business environment sentiments echoed by Managing
Director Jeffrey Pugh: "The location of our
business, which makes maximum use of today's modern
technology means that we do not need to be city
based. Our staff deal daily with businesses throughout
Britain and Ireland and have the added benefit
of living in one of the most beautiful regions
of Wales."
