INTERNATIONAL
HARPIST RETURNED HOME

On
the 5th of December Catrin Finch, the internationally
acclaimed harpist, returned home and performed
a charity concert in Llanon village hall. The
concert was a great opportunity for local people
to see one of the world's best, perform at this
intimate recital.
At
23, Catrin is already one of the finest classical
harpist in the world having released four CD's
the latest being "Crossing the Stone"
which is available on the Sony label. Catrin's
performance in Llanon was to help raise money
for four village projects, Football Club new changing
rooms, Ysgol Feithrin (Nursery School), Youth
Club and Cymdeithas yr Henoed (Senior Citizens
Group).
Catrin
was raised in Llanon where she attended the local
primary school. At the age of five she was taken
to a harp recital in Lampeter and it was here
that her interest in the harp and being a harpist
was born. At the age of fifteen Catrin left Llanon
for London to study the harp at the Purcell School
to study under the guidance of Skaila Kanga, with
whom she continued her studies at the Royal Academy
of Music.
"Clod
i Gymru Heddiw" ("A credit to Wales")
these were the words that were used by HRH the
Prince of Wales to describe Catrin after she performed
for him as part of a concert for his 50th birthday
celebration. He was so taken by her performance
that he appointed her his personal harpist, a
post last granted in 1871.
All
the proceeds from the night went towards the local
causes above. The concert was proudly sponsored
by Pugh. The picture show Barry Lewis, Sales Account
Manager for the Voluntary Sector (above) presenting
