Next week the world's leading educational ICT event will take place at Olympia, London from Wednesday 10th January - Saturday 13th January.

Pugh will be in attendance for the first three days of the show and although we don't have our own stand at the event, you will be able to find us on the Corel and Quark stands. Take the opportunity to meet us on the stands or arrange a one-to-one meeting.

Symantec at BETT

Symantec has recently announced two new products - Ghost Solution Suite 2.0 and Backup Exec 11d for Windows Servers

Ghost 2.0 is the Microsoft-recommended Vista image deployment and management solution. Ghost Client Migration and the imaging technology of Deploy Centre, allows remote deployment of Windows and Linux operating systems and applications, the use of SmartSector technology (empty sectors not included in image), image compression and multicasting reduces the bandwidth requirements for deployment.

Backup Exec 11d for Windows Servers includes continuous protection for MS Exchange server removing the backup window for e-mails; New Persistent Data Image technology which stores key MS application data in its native format means that individual Exchange e-mails and SharePoint documents, SQL 2005 snapshots and Active Directory components can be restored in seconds. It runs on 64 bit Windows operating systems as well as having agent support for Oracle on Windows and Linux, NetApp Filers, IBM DB2 and extended agent support for UNIX and Linux clients.

Microsoft at BETT

Take the opportunity to learn further about the new Microsoft 2007 desktop and server range by visiting Microsoft on stand D30 for product information and demonstrations.

Office 2007 has a brand new User Interface to enable users to get easier access to the vast array of features. A new 3D charting engine produces dynamic charts and drawings and a new xml document format provides reduced file size, better reliability and integration into other systems.

Microsoft Windows Vista Business Upgrade new features includes Windows Aero interface with Desktop Search, Search folders, and live icons in Document Explorer, taskbar thumbnails plus Flip and Flip 3D to navigate and find your documents more easily. Also added are User Account Control, Windows Defender and parental controls for increased security and Gadgets and the Sidebar for better productivity. Finally, performance is improved with technologies such as SuperFetch for faster loading of apps, ReadyDrive for fast booting from a hybrid drive or ReadyBoost for using your memory stick to add memory.

MS Exchange Server 2007 along with its integration with Office 2007 and SharePoint Services boasts a host of new features and enhancements. New built in protection features include enhanced journaling of messages, new message encryption, local and cluster based data replication and with the new Exchange Enterprise CAL, e-mails can be filtered for SPAM and viruses on MS's hosted system. Exchange is designed to run 64 bit Windows providing better scalability and performance. Mobile access too is enhanced through a more feature rich OWA.
