Microsoft
Eligibility Guide
The
following organisations are entitled to purchase Microsoft
Education Full Box Products. Individual students and
teachers/lecturers may now also purchase Microsoft Education
Full Box Products for their own personal use in the
UK or Ireland.
Microsoft
Education Licensing agreements specify that only eligible
customers can legally use products under these programmes.
Customers abusing this may be prosecuted under the Copyright
Design and Patents Act 1988.

Qualified
Educational Users in UK
- Universities
or colleges recognised by the DfEE.
- Primary
and secondary schools (state, public and private) recognised
by the DfEE.
- Government
Education Authorities, i.e. Local Education Authorities
(LEAs)
- Department
of Education and Employment (DfEE), Welsh Office, Scottish
Office and Northern Ireland Office Education Departments.
- Students
- Full and Part-time Matriculated Students of an eligible
Educational Institution.
- Public
research establishments funded by the DfEE.
- Government
training colleges - classroom training (only) in the RAF,
Army, Royal Navy training schools or hospital medical schools
(no other circumstances)
- Public
Libraries - A public library that provides basic general
library services without charge to all residents of a given
community, region or district.
- Public
Museums - A public museum organised a permanent basis essentially
for educational or aesthetic purposes that utilises a professional
staff and regularly exhibits tangible objects to the public.
- A
charitable organisation which operates on a not for profit
basis and whose aim is i) the relief of poverty, ii) the
advancement of education, iii) the advancement of social
and community welfare, iv) the advancement of culture, or
v) the advancement of the natural environment.
- Registered
charities (including housing associations) - must have a
registration number unless charitable status conferred by
Act of Parliament or legal statute.
- Education
departments within prisons.
Qualified
Educational Users in Ireland
- Department
of Education (DoE)
- Primary
and secondary schools (state, public and private) recognised
by the DoE and HEA.
- Colleges
recognised by the DoE including institutes of technology,
DIT and NCEA designated institutions.
- Universities
including regional technical colleges, DIT and VEC colleges.
- A
charitable organisation which operates on a not for profit
basis and whose aim is i) the relief of poverty, ii) the
advancement of education, iii) the advancement of social
and community welfare, iv) the advancement of culture, or
v) the advancement of the natural environment.
- Registered
charities or caring groups - must have a registration number.
- Government
training colleges - classroom training (only) in the Irish
Air Corps, Dept of Defence, Naval Service Training Colleges.
- Hospitals
- when products are solely in a teaching environment, used
by nurses' training schools or hospital medical schools
(no other circumstances)
- Public
Libraries - A public library that provides basic general
library services without charge to all residents of a given
community, region or district.
- Public
Museums - A public museum organised a permanent basis essentially
for educational or aesthetic purposes that utilises a professional
staff and regularly exhibits tangible objects to the public.
