Revit
MEP Features Include:
- Mechanical
Design Criteria. Create color-fill plans by using design
parameters and display legends to communicate design intent
visually, rather than deciphering spreadsheets and schedules.
Use color-fill plans to quickly facilitate design reviews
and present your design criteria to clients for review and
validation. Color fills are linked to parameter values in
the model so the plans are automatically coordinated as
design changes are made. Create any number of schemes and
easily maintain them for the life of the project.
- Mechanical
Duct and Pipe System Modeling. Mechanical functionality
offers 3D modeling for ductwork and piping to create HVAC
systems. Intuitive layout tools make 3D modeling fast and
easy for even the first-time user to master. Built-in calculators
are available for sizing mains, branches, and even whole
systems at a time. Easily modify the model by dragging design
elements to move or change them on the screen, in almost
any view. All model views and sheets are automatically coordinated
whenever a change is made in any view for accurate and coordinated
designs and documents at all times.
- Electrical
Lighting and Power Circuitry. Minimize errors in your
electrical design by using circuits to track loads, number
of attached devices, and circuit lengths. Define wire types,
voltage ranges, distribution systems, and demand factors
to help ensure the compatibility of electrical connections
in your design, and prevent overloads and mismatched voltages.
Identify voltage drops, apply derating factors, and even
calculate the estimated demand loads on feeders and panels
to size equipment as you design. Plus, take advantage of
circuit analysis tools to quickly total loads and generate
reports for accurate documentation.
- Electrical
Lighting Calculations. Revit MEP uses the zonal cavity
method to automatically estimate lighting levels in rooms
based on the lights placed in the space. Set the reflectivity
values of the room surfaces, attach industry-standard IES
(Illuminating Engineering Society) data files to lighting,
and define the calculation workplane height. Then let Revit
MEP automatically calculate the estimated average illumination
value for the room.
- Plumbing
System Modeling. Gain full 3D parametric modeling of
plumbing system layouts with Revit MEP. Intuitive layout
tools make 3D modeling fast and easy. Just drag design elements
to move or change them on the screen, in almost any view.
Model sloped piping according to industry code. Simply define
the rise over run and lay out your plumbing design, while
the software automatically places all risers and drops and
calculates inverts elevations as you design. All model views
and sheets are automatically coordinated whenever a change
is made in any view for accurate and up-to-date designs
and documents at all times.
- Revit
Parametric Components. Parametric components are the
basis for all building elements designed in Revit MEP. They
offer an open, graphical system for design thinking as well
as an opportunity to express design intent at increasingly
detailed levels. Parametric components can be used for the
most elaborate assemblies for mechanical, electrical, and
plumbing (MEP) engineering systems. Best of all, no programming
language or coding is required.
- Bidirectional
Associativity. A change anywhere is a change everywhere.
All Revit MEP model information is stored in one place.
As a result, any information that gets changed is effectively
changed throughout the entire model simultaneously. Parametric
technology automatically manages all change propagation.
- Revit
Architecture Support. Since Revit MEP is built on the
Revit platform, coordination among MEP team members and
with architects using Revit® Architecture software has
never been easier within the complex building design process.
Revit Architecture models are the best way to support engineering
design criteria. Revit MEP uses the architectural spaces
to support load calculations, track airflow in rooms, and
coordinate panel schedules.
- Revit
Structure Support. With Revit MEP it is possible to
have complete design and documentation coordination with
structural engineers using Revit® Structure software.
Working in a building information model makes it possible
to uncover potential conflicts between the MEP and structural
designs early in the design process, resulting in cost savings.
- Building
Performance Analysis. Take full advantage of building
information modeling to provide better decision-making support
through the use of building performance analysis tools.
Provide significant benefits to the sustainable design process,
supporting the goal of a better-performing building. Perform
heating and cooling load, LEED daylighting, thermal energy,
and other analyses using Revit MEP and the IES Virtual Environment.
-
Import/Export Data (gbXML) for Third-Party Analysis. Revit
MEP enables you to export the building model to gbXML (green
building extensible markup language) for energy and load
analysis. When the analysis is complete, import the data
back and store the results in the model. And for additional
analyses and calculations, export this same information
to a spreadsheet for easy sharing with team members who
dont use Revit MEP software.
- Publish
to DWF. With the click of a button, publish your designs
as DWF files for easy viewing in Autodesk® Design
Review. Create 3D DWF files, complete with engineering data,
for better communication of design intent. And with DWF
technology, team members can review and redline as well,
making the DWF specification an efficient means to distribute
and share data quickly and efficiently.
AutoCAD
MEP Features Include:
- Discipline-Specific
Tool Palettes - Provide all team members with the right
tools for the job. A discipline-specific engineering tool
palette displays only the relevant tools for the mechanical,
electrical or plumbing engineering user, providing consistency
across project drawings. Organise the tool palette to specific
company or individual preferences. Now engineers, designers
and drafters can easily modify tool palette size, shape,
system type and much more using in-place editing. Simply
select the tools you want to change and modify the common
properties all at once, streamlining the design process
and improving productivity.
- Conversion
of AutoCAD Blocks and Symbols to AutoCAD MEP Systems Content
- Easily migrate your existing AutoCAD® symbols to AutoCAD®
MEP content for production of construction documentation.
Existing AutoCAD blocks and symbols are easily converted
to AutoCAD® MEP content, in one easy step, using the
new symbol and device converter.
- Construction
Annotation - Simplify the process of annotating construction
documents with automated annotation tools. AEC dimensions
and dynamic labels update automatically as the design changes,
minimising manual updates. Hidden lines and hatch-on objects
make it easy to interpret design intent. In this release,
new ease-of-use tools and enhanced grips streamline the
use of break marks, labels and scheduling tags. Display
the schematic view of an object rather than the model-generated
view. Create schematic block, annotation or both that scale
when the part size changes.
- Single
Line and Double Line - AutoCAD MEP facilitates routing
of ductwork, piping, cable tray and conduit with intuitive
design tools that automate much of the layout process. Increase
productivity with automated routing solutions based on default
project settings and common industry design standards. With
improved connectivity between objects, automated system
layout is even easier. Improved layout tools make it easier
to convert one-line designs to double line through intuitive
onscreen modification. Custom fittings enable unique layouts
to be designed with the creation of on-the-fly fittings.
Options such as segment length help reduce time spent performing
takeoffs by graphically depicting each segment piece required
for the layout according to manufacturers specifications.
- Duct,
Pipe and Wire Sizing - Automatically size ducts, plumbing
and piping, and wire during design layout using traditional
design methods that incorporate code-driven requirements
and industry standards. These methods eliminate the need
for many tedious manual recalculations. This release introduces
improved connectivity that supports enhanced sizing capabilities,
including one-line duct conversion to double-line ductwork
based on resizing of the system and sizing of systems through
external references (xrefs).
- Enhanced
AutoCAD Commands - Copy, move and align all in one step
with enhanced AutoCAD commands unique to AutoCAD MEP. Automatically
snap in the required orientation and view. Quickly array
along duct, pipe, conduit or cable trays and easily fillet
plumbing piping.
- Sections
and Elevations - Create sections and elevations in seconds
rather than hours. When designers make a change in the design,
sections and elevations update automatically. This capability
saves time and helps ensure accuracy in the design. Each
design change is reflected in real time, minimising tedious
manual updates.
- Systems
- Provide a fast and consistent method for laying out
parts that represent real-world building systems, such as
air supply or return systems. When designers use systems
during design layout, new parts inherit the current systems
defaults, such as rise/drop symbology and display properties.
Designers can apply changes simultaneously to all connected
parts. And since AutoCAD MEP manages layers, systems can
be assigned to layers, helping ensure the accuracy of designs.
In addition, this release provides support for new system
types.
- Extended
Engineering Data - Easy access to engineering data in
your system model enables data sharing for automated sizing
calculations, enhanced scheduling and improved annotation.
Extract engineering data from your models in standard file
formats, such as gbXML (green building extensible mark-up
language) and ddXML (duct design extensible mark-up language).
Take advantage of the application programming interface
(API) for interoperability with third-party analysis, cost
estimating and fabrication applications. Such interoperability
minimises manual transfer of design data and helps to ensure
the accuracy of your designs.
- Dynamic
Dimensions - As engineers, designers and drafters make
changes to their mechanical, electrical or plumbing design,
they benefit from the Dynamic Dimensions feature. This feature
gives real-time feedback on the exact location of a move
or copy change within a design. This capability facilitates
Heads-up Design, speeding the production process for
faster delivery of construction documents.
- Scheduling
- Create schedules in seconds, saving hours over traditional
CAD drawing processes. Schedules are automatically updated
as the design changes. This capability helps to reduce errors
in construction documents. Now engineers, designers and
drafters can schedule engineering system data, calculate
values and use new table styles to lay out room and analysis
schedules.
- Engineering
Display Themes - Use display themes to graphically present
and analyse design intent. For example, use the display
theme By Velocity or Friction Loss to validate system performance
for a particular area or room. Also use the display theme
By Pressure Class to visually show the high, medium and
low-pressure per piping class to easily identify potential
design flaws. Display themes are depicted as colour-filled
displays complete with legends.
- Direct
Grip Manipulation - Streamlining the design process
by virtually eliminating dialogue boxes, grip manipulation
enhances design productivity by keeping engineers, designers
and drafters focused on the design and documentation task
at hand. With a single click, easily perform design and
documentation changes, such as stretching the length of
a duct or changing the Z elevation, while maintaining connectivity
between objects.
- Setup
and Deployment Options - Flexible setup and deployment
options provide for consistent standardisation and management
of software installations for both network and single-user
installations. And through the use of profile-based shortcuts,
the software can now automatically default to specified
template drawings when opened.
- Increased
Performance - Get better overall performance with AutoCAD
MEP software. Manage your projects with tools that are now
smoothly integrated with the AutoCAD® Sheet Set Manager,
increasing the speed of drawing co-ordination. And access
parts through the Add and Modify dialog boxes faster from
the streamlined, comprehensive parts catalogues.
