Autodesk AutoStudio 2008

Autodesk® AliasStudio™ product line is the only design software that addresses the unique creative requirements of the entire industrial design workflow, combining creativity with craftsmanship. It optimizes the design process with industry-leading sketching, modeling, and visualization tools that quickly bring ideas to reality in a single environment and in less time.

Part of the AliasStudio family is Autodesk Autostudio. Use Autodesk® AutoStudio software, an industry-leading application for automotive design and styling and the choice of major automotive styling studios throughout the world. The software provides a comprehensive solution for the entire shape-definition process, from concept sketches through Class-A surfacing.

Features:

  • The Standard for Automotive Design. Benefit from freedom and flexibility for total creativity, and the precision and accuracy of CAD software, with Autodesk® AutoStudio software -- the industry's leading technology for automotive design and styling, 3D modeling, rendering and engineering integration. The comprehensive Autodesk AutoStudio tools enable complete integration throughout the shape definition process, from concept sketches through Class-A surfacing.
  • Efficient, Intuitive User Interface. An intuitive UI speeds workflow for experienced users and accelerates the learning curve for new users. Patented marking-menu technology uses context sensitive gestures to select commands without looking away from the design and to work much faster than with conventional menus. Many aspects of the UI such as hot-keys, tool shelves and marking menus can be customized to suit the demands of a particular project or an individual user's preferred workflow.
  • High Quality + Performance Sketching Tools. Use your drawing skills throughout the design process with unique, integrated sketching tools. Included is a complete set of familiar tools such as pencils, paintbrushes, airbrushes, markers, erasers, and editing brushes like Clone, Blur, Sharpen, Smear and Texture for sketching, painting and illustrating. These features save time because you don't have to switch to another application or sketch on paper and then scan the image. Digital sketching has other advantages over traditional methods such as Undo, Erase and multiple layers.
  • Image Manipulation. Change the shape and colour of sketches and images without switching to another application with design-focused image manipulation tools in Autodesk AutoStudio software. Colour adjustment tools provide for easy changes to colour balance, brightness and contrast, colour saturation and value. All or parts of an image can now be deformed to experiment with shape or to adjust the image, for example a headlamp to fit inside a new front end concept.
  • 2D/3D Integration. Use your sketching skills throughout the design process with the integrated sketching environment of Autodesk DesignStudio software. Orient sketches in 3D space as modelling references and to evaluate form. Used with "Project Sketch", this powerful concept design feature allows details to be quickly sketched over 3D models and evaluated before taking the time to model them. Sketch what is hard to model and model what is hard to sketch.
  • Concept Modelling. Perform rapid and flexible concept modelling with the industry leading modelling tools in Autodesk AutoStudio software. Symmetrical models can be created - allowing designers to work on one half of a design while viewing the whole model.
  • Production and Class-A Surfacing. Efficiently create Class-A surfaces that meet the highest standards of quality. Choose from a procedural (curve-based), direct (cv tugging), or a hybrid modelling approach to aesthetic free-form surface creation.
  • Construction History. Enjoy the flexibility to make changes throughout the design process while keeping tight deadlines. Curve and surface-creation tools provide the option of saving the build history allowing you to edit any of the original data and have the model automatically update, integrating the design changes
  • Reverse Engineering. Experience high performance handling of data from 3D scanners for visualization and reverse engineering. Autodesk AutoStudio software includes efficient tools to extract and evaluate shape information from scan data to update existing digital models or create new surface models.
  • Real-Time Visualization & Evaluation. Get immediate evaluation and visualization without software rendering. Realistic real-time display of 3D models with textures, transparency and shadows provides immediate visual feedback when evaluating surface quality and design form.
  • Photo-Realistic Rendering. Create renderings for presentation with photorealistic rendering capabilities to create images convincing enough to be reproduced directly into print, video or interactive media. Many products have a renderer; few provide more control over critical features such as highlights, reflections and true color.
  • Rapid Prototyping. STL file export lets you output models in STL format for the creation of prototypes on a Stereo Lithography machine. In addition, IGES or STEP output is available for CNC machines.
  • Data Exchange. Autodesk AutoStudio software includes support for industry standard data formats so that data can be shared with other software packages using neutral file formats such as DWG, STEP, IGES, VDA/FS, VDA/IS, DES, DXF and more. Share files with products such as Pro/E using Granite. Optional Direct Connect products are available for CAD products including CATIA and Unigraphics.
